Middle School Curriculum

The educational foundation continues in the middle school years and also expands with advanced math and science, and specialization of teachers in a completely departmentalized program. Composition is also emphasized as is grammar.

Religion - Bible history (grade 6) and doctrine (grades 7 – 8) are taught at this level. In addition to the Bible, Luther’s Catechism and an advanced Bible history textbook is used. Memory work increases to include Scripture passages, catechism material, and certain hymns. Grades 6 – 8 are the confirmation instruction years for members of Trinity Church.

Math - Middle school students increase their basic math skills in a vigorous study with the Saxon Math program. Algebra I is taught in grade 8.

Reading - Students continue to learn reading skills at this level. In addition to textbooks, students read individual literature selections and books throughout the year and are involved with the Accelerated Reading Program, a computer based individualized reading program.

English - Both English grammar and composition skills are taught at this level.

Spelling - A text is used to teach spelling skills and learn specific spellings of words at this level. Students participate in an annual Lutheran School Spelling Bee held at various Lutheran schools.

Science - Physical science, biology, and astronomy are taught at the middle school level. Science is the study of God’s handiwork and students learn to appreciate God’s wonderful creation. The entire universe was created in 6 literal days. The students learn about evolution and are shown how and why this theory is unscientific and actually is contrary to scientific principles and the laws of nature as established by God.

Social Studies - Students receive a vigorous study of world history, world geography, and American history. Investigations and research are an important part of these studies.

Music - Students at this level are engaged in the school musicals and sing anthems in worship services at Trinity Church. Students are eligible to participate in the Trinity School Jubilation Choir and the band program.

Physical Education - Students are engaged in physical games designed to increase coordination and strengthen physical growth. A large portion of this program is coordinated with the interscholastic athletic program.

Foreign Language - Spanish is introduced to all students and is taught for 2 class periods a week.
